Top 5 – Awesome Movies Coming Out in May
May officially kicks off the summer movie season which means blockbusters, sequels, and explosions galore. However, this May comes a nice mix of movies, including a potential Oscar contender, an inventive indie, and a black comedy along with a couple franchises. I’ve talked about these movies in my Summer 2016 Preview segments, so I’ll keep these brief. But with that, here are five awesome movies coming out in May.
5 – Money Monster (Jodie Foster, May 13)
One of the more star-studded dramas coming to theaters this summer, Money Monster takes a stellar cast of Oscar winner’s Julia Roberts and George Clooney and rising star Jack O’Connell and puts them in a financial thriller. Director Jodie Foster has proven herself as a director, showing she has a deft hand for developing great characters and story. I’m excited to see if Clooney and Roberts perform at the highest level and think this could be O’Connell’s big break out.

4 – The Lobster (Yorgos Lanthimos, May 13)
I’ve been waiting a year for this movie and now I will finally get to see it. Telling the bizarre story of a hotel where, if you don’t find a lover in forty-five days, you turn into an animal of your choice. Colin Ferrel stars and looks to give his best performance since In Bruges (2008) and it co-stars the always wonderful Rachel Weisz, the hilarious John C. Reilly, and underrated Ben Whishaw. The perfect combination of quirk, science fiction, and dark comedy, The Lobster is sure to be the most unique movie of the summer.

3 – The Nice Guys (Shane Black, May 20)
This is one movie I have gushed about more than any movie on my Summer 2016 Preview. It was my number one ranked comedy of the summer and my fourth most anticipated movie of the whole summer. The only thing I can say to you is if you haven’t see Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005), watch it immediately and you’ll know exactly why I am as excited as I am. And who doesn’t love a pairing of Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe?

2 – X-Men: Apocalypse (Bryan Singer, May 27)
The latest trailer for this movie just made it even more epic. I love the X-Men franchise under Bryan Singer and think this could be the biggest and darkest one yet. I am really excited to see Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse and Olivia Munn looks incredible as Psylocke. This movie also brings in some X-Men that I grew up with like Cyclops and Jean Grey. I think Days of Future Past (2014) is the best X-Men film ever made, but I think Apocalypse will give it a run for its money.

1 – Captain America: Civil War (The Russo Brothers, May 6)
This is the perfect summer movie. A great franchise film that is smart, funny, exciting, and filled with action. The new heroes, Black Panther and Spider-Man, are amazing and the heroes we know, like Iron Man and Captain America, have never been better. This is the best Marvel Cinematic Universe film since The Avengers (2012) and the movie to beat this summer.
